The District of Muskoka will host the Hate Free Muskoka Symposium, a community event focused on allyship and inclusion.
Building on the first symposium held in 2022, this year’s event will continue discussions related to inclusion, understanding, and belonging in Muskoka. The event will take place on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the Huntsville Active Living Centre from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is open to the public and free to attend.
Hate Free Muskoka will present information and perspectives on how individuals and communities can work toward safer and more inclusive spaces. Topics will include intersectionality, addressing discrimination, and allyship strategies such as awareness and bystander intervention.
The keynote speaker will be Julie S. Lalonde, a women’s rights advocate and public educator, who will present research based on experiences during the pandemic and discuss approaches to recognizing shared human experiences.
Panellists will include Cheraldean Duhaney, CEO of Impact Youth and Culture Centre; Laura LaChappelle, program director for Making Change; Isaiah Beckford, youth outreach coordinator and artist with UpLift Black; and Natasha Shakespeare, founder of Parents Against Racism Simcoe County. They will speak about their experiences with discrimination and systemic inequities, and offer insights related to supporting equity-deserving communities.
