A Huntsville woman who spent the past year on a criminal “tear” was recently sentenced to 90 days in jail.
Katy Austin recently appeared in a Bracebridge courtroom to plead guilty to a long list of offences that included breaching court orders, mischief, theft, attempted break and enter and various other offences
Her crimes include stealing various items from a convenience store in Huntsville, and stealing more than $400 worth of liquor from the Huntsville LCBO, from which she was already banned. She was later identified using CCTV.
She also failed to pay back restitution owed to a number of businesses in Huntsville from previous crimes.
Justice R. Williams said that although none of the crimes on their own were particularly heinous, the culmination of so many was troubling.
“In the space of a year you were on a tear,” said Williams. “You’re not public enemy number one but when you have to go through someone’s record by turning pages it’s jarring.”
Justice Williams agreed to a joint submission for 90 days in jail and 12 months probation, but cautioned Austin that she was getting a “pretty sweet deal.”
