A driver was in a Bracebridge court recently to answer for driving with a cocktail of drugs in his system and weapons in his car.
Thomas Nichols, 21, recently pled guilty to impaired driving stemming from an incident that occurred in Muskoka Lakes Township on Sept 19, 2022.
On that day Bracebridge OPP were called to a collision on Doherty Road involving a single vehicle. The police found a BMW stuck in the ditch. There appeared to have been efforts to free the vehicle by placing rocks and sticks behind the rear tires, court heard.
The driver, Nichols, was not at the scene but was located nearby stumbling down the road, court heard. Officers suspected the driver was under the influence and a blood test found a number of different types of methamphetamines and depressants in his system.
Court heard that Nichols had no previous criminal record and he was sentenced to a $1,500 fine, a one-year driving ban and 18 months probation. A knife and a baton were also found in the vehicle and the judge agreed to place Nichols under a weapons band for the duration of his probation.
