A Hwy 11 driver had an adventurous ride which eventually ended in criminal charges, a Bracebridge court heard recently.
William Lowry, 40, pled guilty to impaired driving, stemming from an incident that occurred Feb 15, 2025.
On that day at 2:30 pm, OPP were alerted to a possible impaired driver on Hwy 11 southbound in Huntsville, court heard. The caller said the vehicle had driven into a ditch, but managed to get out and continue driving down the highway.
Police caught up with the vehicle, which was travelling 140 km/hr in snowy conditions. The cruiser activated lights and sirens, and the driver accelerated before eventually coming to a stop.
Police found the vehicle was damaged, and inside were full and empty beer cans throughout the vehicle. The driver, Lowery, had also sustained injuries to his head, court heard.
Lowery refused to take a breathalyser test and was arrested.
The court heard he has a record for related offences.
He was sentenced to a two-year driving ban, $2,500 fine and 12 months’ probation.
