Impaired driver still drinking when police arrive

A Bracebridge driver who was still drinking alcohol when police showed up at the scene of a collision was in court recently.

Stephen Good, 29, pled guilty in a Bracebridge court to driving with more than 80mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.

Court heard that on July 21, 2024, at 8:45 am the Bracebridge OPP were called to a motor vehicle collision on Matthiasville Road.

When they arrived they found the car in the ditch and the driver, Good, sitting by the roadside drinking a Whiteclaw. Good said he had swerved to miss a raccoon in the roadway but admitted he was also hungover.

Good was given a breathalyzer and blew 325 mg of alcohol, more than quadruple the limit.

Good was fined $2,500, and given a 12-month driving ban and 12 months probation.
