It’s Wayback Wednesday: Brown’s Beverages, Gravenhurst, c.1885

From the Muskoka Springs (formerly Brown’s Beverages) website:

“Our history starts in 1873 with Dugald Brown and his family. Dugald noticed a gap in the market when Gravenhurst began to boom. Lake water was slowly becoming unpalatable as the logging and other industries began to pollute the area. He found a local site situated on top of a natural, underground spring and began bottling natural spring water from an artesian well. That site is 220 Bay Street, our home to this day.

Dugald and his son, Jack, who later took control of the operations, expanded rapidly. In the late 1800s, they began producing sparkling beverages, including their soon-to-be-famous Pale Ginger Ale and Stone Ginger Beer. Our little black book contains recipes that are now over 100 years old.”
