Kirby’s Beach closed following needle discovery

Town of Bracebridge staff indicated today are aware of a situation that has caused concern at Kirby’s Beach Park and continue to conduct a thorough review of the beach, water and park. As a result of the ongoing investigation, the beachfront and water access at Kirby’s Beach Park will be closed until further notice. The park, playground, washroom facilities and picnic tables will remain open.

Yesterday a member of the public posted on a Facebook bulletin board that multiple sewing needles had been found scattered in the water a few feet from the shore at Kirby’s Beach.

Site inspection and maintenance frequency will be increased at Kirby’s Beach Park, which includes beach raking, cleaning and garbage collection.

The Town takes community safety seriously and are working closely with the Bracebridge OPP Detachment who will be increasing patrols of the area.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to be aware of their surroundings at all times and report anything that seems suspicious.
