Lake of Bays Brewing awarded arena cafe lease

The Muskoka Lumber Dog, jumbo onion rings, peameal bacon melts and craft beer are potentially all on the menu at the new  Muskoka Lumber Community Centre (MLCC).

During the most recent Bracebridge general committee meeting, councillors agreed on a five-year lease with Lake of Bays Brewing Company for the café space and catering services in the new arena.

Mayor Rick Maloney said he’s pleased to have a local company on board.

“This is a business that will be very recognizable in our community … and it brings continuity to the new community centre,” said Maloney.

The MLCC is expected to include a stand-alone café, with approximately 455 sq. ft of usable space, which is in the main floor lobby. A catering kitchen and servery are in the Muskoka Leon’s Auditorium on the second floor.

The Library has requested the right to coordinate their catering services and therefore a clause in the lease agreement would allow that.

Lake of Bays Brewing has been in business since 2010 and is a well-recognized food and beverage operator in Bracebridge, Huntsville and Baysville, according to a staff report.

Lake of Bays Brewing and Town staff are currently in communication with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) with respect to the process for licensing the Muskoka Lumber Community Centre to include the sale of alcohol, read the report.

For the first five years, the proposed base rent will be five percent of gross sales from the operation of the café and catering services, inclusive of alcohol sales, per month, for years one and two of the lease term and six percent for years three through five.
