Lakeland EV Charging is set to significantly grow its footprint across Central Ontario after securing $1.95 million in federal funding through Natural Resources Canada’s Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP).
The funding will support an expansion led by Bracebridge Generation Ltd., which operates Lakeland EV Charging, with construction expected to be completed by late 2027. The project will add nine new charging station locations, building on the company’s existing network in Muskoka and Parry Sound.
The expansion will push farther into underserved areas, including planned sites in Haliburton and Barry’s Bay, helping improve access for commuters, cottagers and tourists travelling through the region.
Lakeland EV Charging director Peter Ewald said the investment moves the company closer to its goal of creating a reliable, easy-to-use charging network across Central Ontario.
“This funding will help us move closer to our goal of offering simple, dependable, and community-oriented EV travel throughout Central Ontario,” Ewald said.
The announcement was made at the EV & Charging Expo in Toronto, where Karim Bardeesy, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Industry, highlighted the federal government’s focus on expanding charging access.
“We are investing in EV chargers where Canadians need them most, making it easier for drivers to get to where they live, work and play. This is how we build a strong and climate-competitive future,” Bardeesy said.
