The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) has extended the flood watch for Bracebridge-Minden-Parry Sound District until Friday, May 3 for the Muskoka and Black River Watersheds.
Watershed Conditions Statement – Flood Watch
Location: Muskoka and Black River Watersheds
A flood watch indicates the potential for flooding within specific watercourses and municipalities.
Higher than normal water levels and flow conditions exist throughout the area. Lower-lying portions of known flood-prone areas may be impacted to varying degrees as lake/river levels start to rise in response to significant precipitation. Residents and visitors should exercise caution while around bodies of water and maintain close supervision of children and pets. Also, exercise extreme caution when using forest access roads as they may become seasonally inundated with water, are prone to washouts, and may become impassible due to localized flooding.
The Ministry is closely monitoring the weather and developing watershed conditions. Status updates can be found on the Ontario flood map.
A limited number of sandbags and sand are available at the Town of Bracebridge Municipal Office at 1000 Taylor Court for personal use.
Boat Safety
Boaters are advised to be cautious if traveling on local waterways. Boat traffic during spring conditions can cause damage to shorelines and to shoreline property with vessel wakes. There also continues to be a significant amount of debris in the waterways. Please use extreme caution when boating.
