Canada’s largest musical instrument retailer is set to make a splash in Muskoka.
Last week, Sheri Katz of Long & McQuade Musical Instruments, confirmed that the company is moving into the newly redeveloped former Home Hardware space in Gravenhurst.
“It will be roughly 7,000 square feet and include a beautiful sales area, a rentals department and a Music Lessons Centre,” says Katz. “The building will also have two new smaller tenant areas – we’re working on the details of those now.”
It’s been speculated that Starbucks will be opening a franchise in the location but representatives did not respond to queries.
Katz says the schedule will be determined by how quickly they can get their permit and when they can commence work.
Long & McQuade Limited was formed in 1956 when professional trumpet player Jack Long set up a small store on Carlton Street in Toronto. In 1957, Long was joined by professional drummer Jack McQuade and the pair decided to open up a small retail store on Yonge Street and named it Long & McQuade Musical Instruments.
Currently, there are over 82 Long & McQuade stores across Canada as well as an online store that opened in 2008. The company employs over 1,300 musicians and contracts around 1,000 music teachers across Canada. To this day the entire company is still 100% owned by the Long family.
