MAHC board approves Stage 1.3 capital redevelopment plan submission

The board of Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare has approved the Stage 1.3 capital redevelopment plan submission, including an additional 10 beds for the Bracebridge hospital site. This enables MAHC to move forward with its submission to the Ministry of Health.

“The board’s decision follows extensive consultation and analysis, including strong community feedback and endorsement from key stakeholders. The plan includes the recommendation to add 10 new beds to the Bracebridge site, bringing the total number of beds to 46. This adjustment ensures that MAHC is addressing the future healthcare needs of the region while maintaining high standards of patient care,” notes a release issued by MAHC yesterday following the board’s decision.

“Today’s vote is an important step toward the future of healthcare in Muskoka,” stated Carla Ladd, Chair of the Capital Redevelopment Steering Committee and Vice Chair of the Board, in a release issued by MAHC following its board’s decision. “The approval of the Stage 1.3 submission demonstrates our continued commitment to delivering sustainable healthcare solutions and ensuring that the needs of our community are met. At the end of the day, this is all about our patients. It’s great that we will renew these buildings, but more importantly, there will be more services and markedly better care at both hospitals.”

Board Chair Dave Uffelmann was also quoted as saying: “This decision reflects the board’s strong belief in the plan’s vision for Muskoka’s healthcare system. It is a testament to the tireless efforts of so many at MAHC, including the capital redevelopment planning team and our board, as well as the dedication of past MAHC boards, board chairs, management teams, and many stakeholders over the past decade. Their collective work has laid the foundation for this crucial moment, and we are now well-positioned to move forward in addressing the region’s healthcare needs.”

The submission is expected to be formally presented to the Ministry of Health in early November after MAHC finalizes the submission.

“The capital redevelopment plan will continue to involve comprehensive engagement with stakeholders, ensuring that the evolving needs of the community remain central to the project’s development,” adds the release.
