The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is advising parents to talk to their children about vaping.
Conversations about vaping are very important to have with your child, and the earlier the better, advises the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU). Your child may be feeling pressure to try vaping. They see it at school and online through YouTubers and on TikTok. The candy and fruit flavours and high-tech designs make vaping even harder to resist, explains SMDHU.
Vaping is extremely addictive. Being addicted to nicotine makes kids feel moody and anxious and they are more likely to start smoking cigarettes and try other drugs.
Vaping has other health risks too. It causes lung damage and changes your child’s brain making it harder for them to learn and remember. It is not just harmless water vapour.
As parents/caregivers, you play an important role in encouraging a vape-free lifestyle for your child.
Make vaping a part of the conversation. Learn more at NotAnExperiment.ca and check out tips for talking to your child about vaping. They listen more than you may think they do.
