A man found himself on the wrong end of an OPP taser after his disruptive behaviour at the Bracebridge detachment.
Gerald Caza, 46, appeared in a Bracebridge courtroom recently to plead guilty to attempted theft under $5,000, robbery, impersonating another individual and assaulting a police officer.
Court heard that on April 26, 2024, a woman attended a laundromat in Gravenhurst and was approached by Caza, who asked her for change for a $20 bill. Caza then demanded the woman’s wallet. She refused and fled the scene. She then ran across the street to a gym where she contacted police.
The police arrived, arrested Caza and transported him to the Bracebridge detachment.
At the detachment, Caza claimed to another individual. He then covered the CCTV in his cell with toilet paper, before breaking off the faucet and flooding the cell with urine and water.
When police opened the cell, Caza took on a “fighting stance” and he was ultimately tasered by the police.
He was sentenced to 120 days in jail, which had been served in pre-trial custody.
