Man convicted of breaking into Gravenhurst vehicles and garages

A Gravenhurst man was in a Bracebridge courtroom recently to answer to multiple charges.

Brandon Tonna, 36, pled guilty to unlawfully being in a dwelling, theft of a credit card, and operating a vehicle while prohibited.

Court heard that on March 5, 2025, police were called to a potential break and enter into unlocked garages in Gravenhurst. Surveillance footage revealed Tonna going into a garage and stealing two axes. He was also observed breaking into another garage, as well as going through a vehicle and stealing a purse, credit cards, cash and a driver’s license.

Visa statements revealed unauthorized visa purchases at a local gas station, and Tonna was again seen on surveillance video.

A subsequent search of Tonna’s residence by the OPP turned up various stolen IDs and credit cards.

Police eventually caught up with Tonna, where he was observed driving a vehicle. He was prohibited from driving at the time due to an impaired driving conviction.

The judge points out Tonna had just finished serving a lengthy prison sentence.

He was given a suspended sentence, 18 months’ probation and time served in pre-sentence custody.
