Man Under House Arrest Sentenced After Impaired Driving Incident

A Muskoka 28-year-old man has been sentenced to 90 days in jail following an impaired-related incident that occurred earlier this year.

David Baldwin appeared recently in Bracebridge court, where he pleaded guilty to refusing a breathalyzer test, driving while prohibited, and breaching the terms of his house arrest.

The charges stem from an incident on February 3, 2025, at approximately 10:33 p.m., when police on patrol observed a vehicle driving erratically. Officers conducted a traffic stop and determined that Baldwin was required to remain inside his residence at all times. He also appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and was a suspended driver.

Police say Baldwin became belligerent during the stop and resisted arrest, prompting officers to call for backup. After being placed in the cruiser, he allegedly struck his head against the plexiglass divider. At the detachment, he berated officers, threw items, and dropped his pants.

Court heard that Baldwin has a prior record related to impaired driving.

He was sentenced to 90 days in custody.
