Minett development appeal set for Dec. 5

It appears the debate over future development in Minett isn’t quite a done deal yet.

After years of discussion, Official Plan amendments for Minett were passed by both the District of Muskoka and the Township of Muskoka Lakes earlier this year. However, appeals have been filed to the Ontario Land Tribunal by JW Marriott and Legacy Cottages, who both have properties in Minett.

The Official Plan amendments have been in development since 2018 and set out to address community concerns respecting the extent of resort commercial development rights within the resort village of Minett designation and its potential to impact the waterfront character in the area.

The appeals largely centre on a request for details of the implementation plan, financial obligations of connecting to municipal servicing, exemption from proposed unit sizes and several other details.

The Ontario Land Tribunal hearing is set to begin on December 5, 2022.
