The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is advising area residents that a Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety is in effect in the district until Friday, April 19. Please exercise caution while around bodies of water.
Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety
A Water Safety rating indicates that high flows, or other factors could be dangerous but flooding is not expected. Local river sections included in this Water Safety rating include the Muskoka River Watershed and Black River.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement indicating that significant rainfall is expected within the area. Periods of rain are forecasted to continue today through tonight. Periods of rain may mix with or transition to snow overnight, particularly over areas of higher terrain. Precipitation is expected to come to an end Saturday morning.
Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lower-lying portions of known flood-prone areas may be impacted to varying degrees as lake/river levels start to rise in response to significant precipitation. Residents and visitors should exercise caution while around waterbodies and maintain close supervision of children and pets.
Exercise extreme caution when using forest access roads for outdoor activities as they may become seasonally inundated with water, are prone to washouts and may become impassible due to localized flooding.
The Ministry is closely monitoring the weather and developing watershed conditions. Status updates can be found on the Ontario flood map.

Monitoring Road Conditions
The Town’s Public Works Department is monitoring road conditions for seasonal flooding in low-lying areas and will continue to do so over the weekend. The end of the municipally maintained portion of Tingey Road is closed due to a beaver dam failure on the private portion of road.
