It was a mixed bag of results for Muskoka’s local soccer teams this week.
Playing in the I-Model C3 division, the Muskoka United FC (MUFC) U15 Boys dropped a very competitive and high-scoring away match against IFC on June 11.
Muskoka lost 5-4, but showed they have the skill and heart necessary to battle with the York Region teams. Kyliam Coulombe scored twice for MUFC, while James Habel and Owen Robinson added the others.
The U17 Boys had a bye-week and continue their I-Model qualifying campaign on June 19 away to IFC. They have two matches left to determine whether they’ll be in C1 or C2 for the rest of the season.
To qualify for the top division, they’ll need to win both their matches and get lots of help from other results.
All the other MUFC youth teams are playing in various Huronia District Soccer League age divisions, competing against teams representing clubs located from Bradford to North Bay, as well as Collingwood and Wasaga Beach.
The Muskoka United FC (MUFC) U14 Girls picked up a nice home win over Barrie, 2-0, with Kaley Verheye and Vanessa Azeez scoring, while Rosa Morison-Roberts and Lochlann Menard split the clean sheet in goal.
The U16 Girls fought to a 1-1 draw against Nipissing District SC (North Bay) with Jovie Moore scoring for Muskoka.
The U9 Girls finally opened their season this week with a road game against Barrie on June 10. Despite a very solid effort by MUFC, the home team found the back of the net for a very late winner with only 30 seconds left to take the 1-0 result. Next up is the U9 Girls first home game at Pollington Field in Huntsville on June 17.
The U11 Girls dropped a very competitive match 4-1 to the Bradford Wolves. Mackenna Gibbons scored again for Muskoka.
The U13 Girls kicked off their season on June 11 at Barrie White. Their next match is set for Pollington Field against Nipissing District SC (North Bay) on June 18.
The U9 Boys dropped a 9-1 result on June 14 against Collingwood. Ashby Leese scored for MUFC. Their next match is on June 18 versus Bradford Wolves at Gostick Park in Bracebridge.
The U10 Boys had a tough match this week, falling 2-1 away to Barrie. Oliver Rix scored for Muskoka. Their next match is on June 16 in Orillia.
The U11 Boys drew the Bradford Wolves 3-3 on June 12. Their next match is on June 19 against South Simcoe United.
The U12 Boys will eventually start their season on June 24 in Bracebridge against Nipissing District SC (North Bay).
The U14 Boys lost 5-1 to Orillia on June 10 at Gostick Park. Nate MacKinnon scored for Muskoka. Their next match is on June 25 in Collingwood.
Old Guys
The O45 Men’s team, again missing their most influential Italian-Canadian player, suffered a 2-0 loss to Orillia in the Rose Cup opening round on June 13. After making it to last year’s Cup final, the Muskoka men will have only the league to focus on this season.
Huntsville Co-Ed Adult League
The Huntsville Soccer Club co-ed adult league plays a 10-week regular season followed by a single playoff night to determine the champion.
In Week 2 action on Thursday night at the McCulley-Robertson South Fields in Huntsville, Team Green tied Team Red and Team White scored a huge victory over Team Blue.
The scoring title race is a tight battle so far, with Caley Brown, Braeden Horvath-Thompson, and Leigh Cameron in the early lead.
Huntsville Women’s League
Week 3 of the Huntsville Women’s Soccer League saw Pub On the Docks edge The SportLab and the Tea Company hold off Muskoka Marshmallo Company 4-3.
Player of the Match awards went to Hannah Spearing, Louise Azzara, Abby Ellis and Tessa Ferguson.
