From the Ontario Bar Association:
More than 100 lawyers from across the province will visit Muskoka this weekend as the Ontario Bar Association (OBA) hosts the Ontario Legal Conference & Retreat at Deerhurst Resort.
“Muskoka is the ideal place to work and play, so we’re excited to be returning to the region,” says OBA President Kathryn Manning. “The Ontario Legal Conference has become a major annual gathering for lawyers and members of the OBA’s council each year, and the grandeur of Muskoka in September is the ideal setting to learn and network.”
The Ontario Legal Conference (Sept. 21-22) is an opportunity for lawyers to participate in expert-led professional development sessions. The weekend also includes an update from Attorney General Doug Downey, the OBA President’s Dinner, recreational opportunities, and the chance for legal professionals to expand referral networks with lawyers spanning many practice areas and from every region of the province.
“The OBA is the premier provider of legal professional development. But we also understand the power of connection and the strength of community,” says Manning, noting that attendees will also get access to select OBA Audio PD to listen to as they make their way to Muskoka. “That’s what this weekend is all about – bringing together lawyers to engage, grow, and also have some fun.
“In so many ways, Muskoka is the perfect backdrop for this.”
This year, programming will focus on solicitors in solo and small firm practices. Topics will cover the latest in legal tech, business and real estate law updates, commercial leasing, strategic thinking, and strategies to help lawyers improve their performance, relationships and wellness.
“With top-notch professional development, specifically tailored to solicitors in solo and small firm practices, lawyers will come away from this weekend with practical insights and valuable advice to implement in their practice,” program chair Paul Lomic says. “It’s a fantastic opportunity to develop business, enhance professional competence and get away for a weekend, all at the same time.”
