Municipal Accommodation Tax officially approved for Bracebridge

The Town Council has approved the implementation of a Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) aimed at supporting tourism promotion and improving local services. The program is set to take effect on October 1, 2025.

The MAT will be charged at a rate of 4% per room night, bringing Bracebridge in line with neighboring communities, including Huntsville and Gravenhurst. The timeline for this implementation allows local accommodation providers to prepare and set up the necessary processes for tax collection.

Last summer, the Town conducted a community engagement initiative to gather feedback from local businesses and the tourism sector.

The Town intends to create a municipal service corporation (MSC) to oversee and allocate 50% of the MAT revenues for tourism promotion in Bracebridge. The MSC board will consist primarily of members from the local accommodation sector, ensuring that there is a direct voice in tourism investment decisions. The Town will retain the remaining 50% of the MAT revenue to support community services and infrastructure, including projects related to visitor services.
