Municipalities join forces to combat climate change

CAOs from across Muskoka are coming together to help fight climate change on a local level.

As part of a joint statement issued recently the CAOs from Muskoka’s six lower-tier municipalities presented a climate emergency report for consideration by all of the Town and Township councils in the District.

The CAOs’ report contained an overview of a proposal from the Climate Action Muskoka (CAM) advocacy group for the lower-tier municipalities in Muskoka to adopt a resolution declaring a climate emergency. The report also discussed corporate and community impacts; collaboration opportunities between lower-tier municipalities in Muskoka, as well as with the District of Muskoka; and suggested steps to develop a program and have a successful implementation.

The plan would be that each participating lower-tier municipality would designate a staff member to participate in a group that would create a baseline Climate Action Plan (CAP) framework that could be used by the municipalities. The District’s Climate Change Initiatives Coordinator would provide expertise to collaborate on the completion of this plan.
