The organization expressed appreciation to the volunteers, board members, donors, and sponsors for their consistent support, which has played a vital role in the preservation of Muskoka’s environmental heritage.
During the meeting, the Conservancy presented its annual awards. The Wayland Drew Award was given to Margaret McLaren for her leadership in environmental initiatives, recognizing her commitment to stewardship, conservation, and environmental education.
The Michael Foster Photography Award was awarded to Tom Forbes for his photograph “Looking at You,” featuring a dragonfly, which highlights the details of the natural environment.
Joanne Smith, a board director since 2022, was acknowledged for her contributions before her retirement from the board. Her involvement has had a meaningful impact on the advancement of Muskoka Conservancy’s mission and support for Indigenous acknowledgment, the meeting heard.
Additionally, it was announced that the 2025 Muskoka Conservancy Bursary was awarded to Cameron Smith, a student from Huntsville High School, who will be studying Conservation Biology at Trent University in the fall.
