Muskoka Dancer selected for Team Canada Dance

A local dancer’s talent and determination have elevated her to the upper echelon of her sport.

Emma McLellan, an aspiring dancer from Bala, has been selected to join Team Canada Dance for their fall 2025 season. This prestigious opportunity will allow her to compete in five different genres: Jazz, Show Dance, Modern/Contemporary, Ballet, and Acro.

“I can’t believe I get the chance of a lifetime to perform on stage in another country,” says Emma. “I’ll be bringing both my parents with me as their unwavering support has been pivotal in my journey. I’m truly grateful for all they have done to help me reach this point.”

Emma began her dance journey at the age of 9 in Huntsville, driven by her ambition to become a competitive dancer. After several years of hard work and dedication, she honed her skills at J Dance Performing Arts Studio. In 2022, she advanced to professional training programs in Toronto and Belleville, including stints at Cadence School of Ballet and Quinte Ballet School of Canada.

Erica McLellan, Emma’s mother, says she’s proud of her daughter’s achievements.

“Emma is currently dancing with Muskoka Dance Connection and is at an exciting juncture in her career. Throughout 2025, she’s been travelling and auditioning across various regions for some incredible opportunities, and her acceptance to compete with Team Canada Dance is a testament to her talent and determination. Emma is a kind and remarkable young woman, and we’re hopeful she will travel to Europe with the support of our community.”

However, pursuing this dream comes with a hefty price tag. Costs associated with flights, accommodations, food, costumes, and competition fees can total around $20,000. To help cover these expenses, Emma has launched a GoFundMe campaign.

“The arts hold a significant place in my heart,” Emma stated. “I’m reaching out for support to help make my dreams a reality.”
