Muskoka Futures looks to challenge the status quo

Muskoka Futures, a local Non-Profit business development agency, announced today the final event for their Muskoka 4.0 Startup Competition would take place via livestream on their websites muskokafutures.ca and muskoka4point0.ca on Thursday March 31st from 3-5pm. “We have some really great companies who can make a real difference here in Muskoka so we encourage everyone to tune in and see who will be the next to call Muskoka home” said Jodi Chapman-Good, Competition Manager for Muskoka 4.0.

In addition to hearing the pitches of the three finalists (EmergConnect, IRIS and Teznic) those tuning in will also get to hear from former Dragon from CBC’s Dragons Den, Bruce Croxon who will share some quick insights before joining the Power Panel posing questions to the finalists. Joining Bruce on the Power Panel will be Don Duval from NORCAT (the Regional Innovation Centre in Sudbury) Lauren Epstein, Principal at StandUp Ventures and seasoned Investor, as well as 2020 Muskoka 4.0 Winner Wayne Li of NextUp Care.

With Muskoka 4.0, Muskoka Futures is on a mission to change the world. At least their little part of it. To make it greener, healthier and more sustainable. Muskoka 4.0 is their clever nod to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, but they know if they are going to make a difference, it’s going to take people that are much smarter than they are. Muskoka Futures says that’s why in 2019 they set aside over $1.3M to fund Canadian tech startups that are tackling global challenges — like climate change, ecosystem management, rural and remote energy solutions, better healthcare, social innovation, and digital transformation.

“We’re on the hunt for innovative, diverse early-stage startups looking to take their business to the next level.” says David Brushey, Executive Director of Muskoka Futures. “We’ve put our money where our mouth is and we are prepared to invest $250,000 a year to find and bring these businesses to Muskoka”.

“We believe that together, we can change the world – and our community — for the better.” remarks Jodi Chapman-Good . “We figure if you can change the world from anywhere, why not change the world from here”.

The community is encouraged to tune in on Thursday March 31st from 3-5pm for the livestream, it is free and available at the click of a button at muskokafutures.ca and muskoka4point0.ca
