The Township of Muskoka Lakes (“Township”) held its monthly public Planning Committee meeting on November 13, 2025, during which proposed amendments to Building By-law #2005-087 were presented, discussed, and approved to proceed to Council for ratification. In accordance with the Building Code Act, S.O. 1992, public notice of the proposed amendments was issued on October 22, 2025.
The updated by-law, now designated as Building By-law #2025-116, is scheduled to be brought before Council for adoption at its upcoming meeting on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. ET, to be held at the Township of Muskoka Lakes Municipal Office, located at 1 Bailey Street, Port Carling, Ontario.
The proposed amendments are intended to modernize the current by-law to align with evolving building practices, enhance clarity, and maintain compliance with provincial legislation. Key updates include:
- Updating definitions,
- Updating the classes of permits section,
- Modifying requirements for applications and notice requirements for inspections,
- Imposing new alternative solutions to the objective-based building code
- Minor amendments to Schedule H (fees), including sewage system maintenance inspection program fees
- General provisions
