Muskoka Lakes Township puts new rules on short term rentals

On Wednesday August 14, Council approved a Short Term Rental Accommodation Licensing By-Law for the Township of Muskoka Lakes. While the by-law has been approved, it will not come into effect until January 1, 2025.

“As a result of continuing concerns in Muskoka Lakes, Council initiated a process to regulate short term rental accommodations,” said Mayor Peter Kelley. “Our hope is that when this by-law is fully implemented, we see a decrease in the number of community concerns”.

The Short-Term Rental Accommodation licensing program was initiated by the Township to ensure all rentals preserve neighbourhood character and operate safely and in accordance with Fire Protection Standards and the Ontario Building Code.

The public should anticipate that further information will be shared in the coming months.
