Muskoka Lawn Bowling Club Moves Indoors for Winter Short Mat Season

As the leaves fall and Muskoka’s outdoor lawn bowling greens are put to rest for the year, members of the Muskoka Lawn Bowling Club are rolling right into their indoor season with a game that keeps the fun and camaraderie alive all winter long — Short Mat Bowling.

Short Mat Bowling offers all the strategy and friendly competition of traditional lawn bowling, but on a smaller indoor surface that’s perfect for the colder months. The game can be played as singles, pairs, doubles, or triples, and the goal remains the same: roll your bowls closer to the small white target ball, known as the “jack,” than your opponents.

To introduce new players to the sport, the Muskoka Lawn Bowling Club is offering free trial sessions in early November. Everyone is welcome — no experience is required. Participants are asked to wear comfortable clothing and clean, flat, soft-soled indoor shoes.

Free Trial Dates:

  • Afternoons: November 3rd & 7th, 1:15 – 3:15 p.m.
  • Mornings: November 4th & 6th, 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Location:
Muskoka Lumber Community Centre
56 Salmon Avenue, Bracebridge

The Short Mat season runs from November through April, offering a fun and friendly way to stay active during the winter months.

For more information about joining or trying out Short Mat Bowling, contact the Muskoka Lawn Bowling Club or drop by one of the free sessions to see what it’s all about.
