A Huntsville man who breached his conditions within days of being charged for drug trafficking was sentenced to 50 days in jail last week.
Appearing in Bracebridge court virtually from a correctional facility, Dwayne Gagnon, 43, pleaded guilty to breaching his probation.
On Jan. 29 at 4:15 p.m officers stopped a vehicle on Centre Street in Huntsville arresting three people and finding a quantity of drugs including 42 grams of cocaine, 2.6 grams of crack cocaine, 1.85 grams of blue fentanyl, six hydromorphone, and $6,670 in cash.
Released from jail, Gagnon was ordered not to associate with one of his co-accused but just four days later he was pulled over in the same car as one of his co-accused.
The Crown attorney asked for 60 days in jail, saying that Gagnon continues to break conditions and the message simply isn’t through.
The defence attorney said Gagnon had been in a snowmobile accident some time ago and had been prescribed opiates for pain. When the prescription expired he turned to street drugs. He requested 45 days jail
Gagnon was ultimately sentenced to 50 days for the breach.
