A Muskoka man will be serving the next nine months behind bars after pleading guilty to multiple offences in a Bracebridge courtroom earlier this week.

Appearing virtually from jail, Christopher Dinsmore, 27, pleaded guilty to multiple counts of using a stolen bank card,  break and enter at multiple businesses in Huntsville, failing to pay the charge on a taxi cab from Barrie to Huntsville, and multiple other offenses.

Court heard that in July And September of 2021, Dinsmore broke into several businesses located in the downtown area of Huntsville. In the course of those break and enters, Dinsmore stole numerous items including watches, sunglasses, gaming systems and phones. On multiple occasions he was caught on surveillance camera using a hammer to smash through glass doors and display cases. Recognized by the police through the videos, Dinsmore was ultimately picked up and found to be in possession of break and enter tools, as well as crack cocaine.

In another incident, Dinsmore was charged with fraud following an incident on November 14, 2020 wherein he took a cab from Barrie to Huntsville after agreeing to pay the cabbie a flat fee of $207.  When the cab arrived at its destination, Dinsmore entered a residence and refused to pay for the cab. The cabbie contacted police and Dinsmore was subsequently charged.

Court heard that Dinsmore was also seen on surveillance camera using a stolen bank card on multiple occasions. He also pled guilty to violating several court-ordered terms.

Court heard that Dinsmore has been affected by multiple personal tragedies in the past and eventually he turned to drugs and has continued to spiral into a life of drugs and crime.

The Crown and defence offered a joint sentencing submission which was accepted by the judge. The sentence was for nine months in custody followed by 24 months of probation. He was also ordered to pay back the cost of the cab from Barrie.
