Muskoka man gets house arrest for firing off shotgun indoors

A Lake of Bays man was recently placed under house arrest after admitting to firing a gun indoors.

Appearing recently in a Bracebridge courtroom, Justin Carrier-Copan, 24, pled guilty to possession of a firearm without a license and careless use of a firearm.

According to an OPP report, on November 07, 2022 at approximately 3:53 a.m. members of the Huntsville Detachment responded to a report of a dispute occurring at a residence located on Elder Drive, Township of Lake of Bays, in which gunshots were reportedly heard.

Court heard that police found a shotgun and observed bullet holes in the wall of the residence. Carrier-Copan admitted to shooting the shotgun into the wall by accident.

The incident resulted in a heavy police presence that included Huntsville Detachment officers, Huntsville Detachment Crime Unit, Central Region OPP Caine, Central Region OPP Emergency Response Team, and OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit.

Carrier-Copan was sentenced to nine months under house arrest and nine months under curfew.
