Muskoka Man Gets Suspended Sentence After Parking Lot Fight

A Huntsville man has been handed a suspended sentence after pleading guilty to assault in a Bracebridge courtroom recently.

Court heard that on Aug. 31, 2025, Ontario Provincial Police were called to a disturbance on Brunel Road in Huntsville involving a fight between two men. A second call reported that one man had been assaulted by two others. The incident was captured on CCTV in a supermarket parking lot.

Video evidence showed one of the men being knocked to the ground, where he was then kicked while down. The victim later staggered to a vehicle and drove away. Taylor Cottrill was identified as the individual who kicked the victim in the chest.

Defence counsel told the court the men did not know each other prior to the incident. The altercation began after Cottrill allegedly made a comment to a woman who was with the victim and gave her his phone number. The victim then confronted Cottrill, leading to what was described as a consensual fight. A third man joined in and punched the victim before Cottrill delivered the kick.

The court also heard Cottrill has a prior criminal record.

He received a suspended sentence along with 18 months of probation.
