Muskoka man guilty of fraud at waste transfer station

A man who was supposed to be taking payments at a District waste transfer site was also taking something for himself, a Bracebridge court heard recently.

William Jacklin, 49, of Mactier, recently pled guilty to fraud stemming from multiple incidents that occurred between January and August of 2024.

Court heard Jacklin was a subcontractor at a District waste transfer station when police Bracebridge OPP received a complaint regarding potential fraud. An investigation revealed that Jacklin was taking payments for transfers but then voiding the transactions and keeping the money for himself.

In the end, it was determined he defrauded the District of roughly $2,000, which court heard he has now repaid.

Court heard Jacklin has a criminal record and he was sentenced to 60 days of house arrest and 24 months of probation.
