A 31-year-old Muskoka man has been sentenced after pleading guilty to multiple criminal offences in a Bracebridge court last month.
Derek Kunkel admitted to theft after an incident at the Gravenhurst LCBO on March 18, 2025. Court heard Kunkel concealed a bottle of vodka inside his pants before fleeing the store without paying. Ontario Provincial Police located him shortly afterward, and officers found him in possession of a prohibited spring-loaded switchblade knife.
In addition, Kunkel admitted to committing mischief in September 2025, when he smashed a window at a residence in Gravenhurst and caused damage to other property.
The court imposed a sentence of time served, totalling 87 days in custody. Kunkel was also placed on 12 months of probation, during which he must comply with court-ordered conditions.
