Moviegoers across Canada and the United States got the chance to see Muskoka on the big screen this weekend.
My Old Ass officially opened on Friday and is receiving high praise from critics with a 91% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes thus far.
The film stars Maisy Stella, Percy Hynes White, Maddie Ziegler, Kerrice Brooks, and Aubrey Plaza, and was primarily shot in Muskoka Lakes Township in 2022.
IMDB sums up the film as such: “A mushroom trip brings free-spirited Elliott face-to-face with her 39-year-old self. But when Elliott’s “old ass” delivers warnings to her younger self, Elliott realizes she has to rethink everything about her family, life, and love.”
The film’s writer and director Megan Park grew up cottaging in the area and decided to film the coming-of-age story in the same location where she spent that period of her life.
The majority of the shooting was done at the Sterling Point, a century-old cottage located at the north end of Lake Joseph.
At the time of filming, Nora Fountain, the executive director of the Muskoka Lakes Chamber of Commerce said the production brought somewhere between $4 and $5 million into the local economy.
The film is listed as coming soon to the Norwood Cinema 3 in Bracebridge and will eventually be released on Amazon Prime.
