Muskoka Shoebox Project once again helping lift the spirits of women in need

While collections for The Shoebox Project were suspended in 2020 due to COVID-19, local coordinators Jennifer and Sarah Stevenson are excited to announce that the collection of both physical and virtual shoeboxes will resume this year.

They are inviting people to participate and help make a difference for a woman in need in our community by making a shoebox gift, building a virtual shoebox, donating a gift card, or making a financial contribution at shoeboxproject.com/muskoka.

Filled shoeboxes can be dropped off during November at the following locations:
In Bala & Port Carling: Johnston & Daniel Reality, Muskoka Lakes Public Library;
In Bracebridge: Becker Shoes, Royal LePage, Muskoka Natural Food Market;
In Huntsville: Becker Shoes, Royal LePage; and
In Gravenhurst: Royal LePage.

Why it matters

For women who have been displaced from their homes and estranged from their families, the holidays and special occasions can be particularly challenging. Often, women feel disconnected from society, forgotten and alone.

Reducing the feelings of isolation and loneliness faced by women accessing shelters is one of the most important outcomes of The Shoebox Project.

A gift from the Shoebox Project is an opportunity to give back to someone in your community. It’s a small gesture of kindness that has an immediate and positive impact on the woman who receives it.

The true meaning of the season is to share kindness and help others who are in need. Share the joy of giving and make a difference for a woman in need in our community!

For more information on creating a shoebox or making a donation, visit shoeboxproject.com/muskoka. Remember, December 1st is the cut-off.
