Muskoka Soccer Roundup: U14 Girls still undefeated

It didn’t look good after the first half last Wednesday night in Huntsville at the McCulley Robertson South Fields.

Despite playing decently enough, the Muskoka United Football Club (MUFC) U14 Girls were down 2-0 to their opponents from North Bay.

Though the first 45 minutes hadn’t gone to plan, the MUFC players were buoyed by the fact they had created some excellent chances late in the half and knew they had the ability to turn the score around.

And that they did. Goals by Olivia Mackinnon and Kaelyn Doughty secured a 2-2 draw to keep MUFC undefeated this season and in first place in the Huronia District Soccer League (HDSL).

If they intend on winning their league this year, they’ll need to continue having this type of resilience for the rest of the campaign.

Next up is a July 16 home game against Collingwood at Gostick Park in Bracebridge.

More MUFC Results

The U15 Girls, playing the HDSL U16 league, won their opening HDSL Cup match 5-1 last week. Superstar Andi Stevenson scored four goals for Muskoka with Claire Allison adding the other. Next up is a league match away to Barrie this week.

The U12 Girls dropped a tough one last Wednesday, losing 2-1 at Collingwood. Poppy Moyer got the lone goal for MUFC. They also fell twice to Sudbury on Sunday, by scores of 3-2 and 6-0 at Pollington Field in Huntsville. Moyer and Gina Willet scored for Muskoka against Sudbury. The girls now have a bit of a break to refresh and refocus with their next match on July 30 against Barrie White in Huntsville.

The U11 Girls fell 4-0 away to North Bay last week. Their next match is a road game against Wasaga Beach this week. The girls are in the midst of 5 straight matches away from home.

The U9 Girls had a fun day at their home festival at Gostick Park on Saturday. They won 10-0 over North Simcoe before dropping a tight 1-0 result to Collingwood. Brielle Gibbons had a hat trick, Norah Oliver and Abby Welch scored two each, with Hazel Darby and Cate Macdonald adding the others.

Then on Sunday, the U9 girls won one and tied one in two matches against Sudbury’s U8 Girls (playing a year up) on Sunday at Pollington Field. Cassie Creasor, Norah Oliver, and Liv Drennan scored in the 3-1 victory. Next up are a pair of matches at Gostick Park against Sudbury’s U9 girls’ team on July 19.

On the MUFC boys’ side, the U14 team was knocked out of the HDSL Cup last week, falling by a score of 4-1 against Orillia. Nicholas Uadia scored the only Muskoka goal. Next up, league play resumes with a home game on July 15 at McCulley Robertson South against Barrie.

The U12 Boys are now 3-0 to start their season after a pair of wins last week. First they travelled to Orillia on July 8 and brought home a 3-2 win, then two days later they took down Innisfil 3-1 at Pollington Field. Emmett Elling, Henry Lapp, and Jack Oliver found the net versus Orillia. It was Elling again along with Andy Sawyer and Atticus Kuehnen scoring against Innisfil. Next up is a home game at Gostick Park against Barre on July 15.

The U11 Boys were on a bye-week with their next game come on July 17 at Gostick Park against Innisfil.

The U10 Boys beat the Barrie Cardinals for their first win of the season on July 7 by a score of 2-1 with Clark Driscoll and Oliver Rix scoring for Muskoka.

On July 11, the Over 45 men’s team picked up a 3-0 away win over the Barrie Packers last week with captain Steve McCallum scoring twice and Brendan Rasmussen adding the other. Clint Bliss had the clean sheet in goal. Next up, the old guys have a bye week followed by a July 23 home match at Gostick Park against Orillia.

I-Model Teams

The U17 Boys are about to start their I-Model C2 division campaign this week with matches against Richmond Hill in Bracebridge on July 17 and then away to Sudbury on July 19.

The boys are pumped with striker Dante Occhiuzzi saying, “we’ll need to work really hard, but we’re aiming for top spot.”

The U15 Boys have now won two straight matches in the I-Model C3 division, picking up a 3-1 home win over Barrie White on July 9 at Gostick Park. Kyliam Coulombe scored all three for Muskoka. The U15 Boys’ next match is away from home against Thornhill on July 16.

Huntsville Women’s League

The Muskoka Tea Company winning streak may be over, but they’re still unbeaten this season after a 1-1 draw against On the Docks Pub in Week 7 Huntsville Women’s League action at Conroy Park last Monday.

Meanwhile, the other match was a masterpiece in defending, as Muskoka Marshmallo Company and the SportLab played out a 0-0 draw.

Player of the Match awards for Week 7 went to Maggie Pitts, Elsie Moore, Carley Gray, and Hilary Wisenden.
