Muskoka truck thief leads police on chase

A Huntsville man who decided to run from the police in a stolen pickup truck had his day in court last week in Bracebridge.

Appearing virtually, James Rye, 55, pleaded guilty to theft of a Chevy Silverado, failing to stop for police, mischief, possession of break and enter instruments, breach of probation and failing to comply with a court order.

According to the Huntsville OPP, on Tuesday May 12, 2020 at 4:35 a.m., they attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a pickup truck driving westbound on Highway 60, in the Hidden Valley area of Huntsville. The pickup failed to stop and then fled from police. Eventually, the truck came to a stop before Rye exited the pickup and ran off. He was eventually caught and arrested.

Lawyers submissions and sentencing were put over to April 20.
