New Gravenhurst plaque commemorates former mayor

From the Town of Gravenhurst:

On Aug. 21, the Municipal Heritage Committee unveiled a plaque outside the Gravenhurst Fire Department in recognition of Archy Sloan, a former mayor, chief of police, fire official, and accomplished entrepreneur.

Several members of the Sloan family were on hand, along with town council representatives. Heritage Committee chair Michael Wayling and longtime Sloan family friend Rusty Draper provided an informative presentation for everyone gathered. Councillor Randy Jorgensen brought greetings on behalf of the town.

In addition to the roles noted above, Archy Sloan held other positions over the years, including road grader and tax assessor. He was mayor from 1915 to 1919 and again from 1922 to 1924.
