OPP thank Gravenhurst for Marine Patrol assistance

Sgt. Dave Moffatt of the Ontario Provincial Police presented a plaque to Gravenhurst council at the July 18 Committee of the Whole meeting.

He thanked the town and key members of staff for supporting the OPP’s marine unit training program. The OPP use Muskoka Wharf, specifically the town’s marina amenities, each spring while training officers for the upcoming boating season.

Moffatt said that the marine training program has been running for over 35 years. He completed the course himself in 2000, at the Ontario Fire College, which was a “fantastic, unbelievable venue” and he went on to become Marine Co-ordinator five years ago.

“When the Ontario government closed the College,” he said, “panic really did set in.”

He credits Caroline Kirkpatrick, operations manager for the Town and her staff for their hard work and adaptability in helping to get the program running. Kirkpatrick accepted the plaque on behalf of the town.
