On Saturday\, May 30\, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm\, writers of all levels are invited to an engaging and immersive workshop with historical novelist Shelly Sanders\, whose powerful storytelling brings overlooked histories—and the women within them—to vivid life. \n“How to Write a Bestselling Novel\,” is designed for writers across all genres who want to deepen their storytelling and create emotionally resonant narratives. Drawing on her experience as a journalist and award-winning author\, Sanders will guide participants through the delicate balance of weaving historical detail without overwhelming character or plot. \nParticipants will take part in two in-session writing exercises focused on strengthening emotional depth through voice\, conflict\, intuition\, and dialogue. A thoughtfully designed take-home exercise will further support writers in developing a compelling character arc—one that reflects meaningful interior growth as the story unfolds. \nShelly Sanders is the acclaimed author of bestselling novels including The Night Sparrow and Daughters of the Occupation\, as well as three celebrated young adult titles. Spanning five engaging events throughout the summer and fall\, Tall Pine Tales invites audiences to gather\, listen\, and be transported by the written word. \nConceived by the late Melody Richardson\, this enduring series continues to honour her vision of nurturing and celebrating local writers—both emerging and established. Each event features a lively lineup of readers sharing works that range from historical fiction and heartfelt poetry to humorous memoirs\, suspenseful short stories\, and captivating novel excerpts. \nThese evenings are a reminder of the incredible creative spirit that lives right here in our communities. There is something truly special hearing a story from the author’s own voice. \nThis year’s series began at the Gravenhurst Public Library on May 27\, with two more opportunities ahead for audiences to experience the magic of Tall Pine Tales.
