Rainbow benches installed across Muskoka

Muskoka does not celebrate Pride Week until mid-July, but Muskoka Pride has been busy working with local municipalities to increase LGBTQ+ visibility and awareness in time for Pride Month.

On Friday, June 17th, five rainbow benches are being unveiled in Muskoka communities. two more benches will be
installed in the coming weeks. The benches are being installed as symbols of diversity and inclusion in the communities.

Muskoka Pride was a recipient of a Community Enhancement Grant from the District of Muskoka back in December 2021, with the planned project of installing rainbow benches in all municipalities in Muskoka. The project received support from all communities, and the volunteers at Muskoka Pride have been working to see the project through, in spite of challenges with supply chain issues.

Benches are being installed at the Georgian Bay Township Office in Port Severn, the Wahta Cultural Healing Centre on Wahta Mohawk Territory, Windsor Park in Bala, Memorial Park in Bracebridge and the Gravenhurst Town Office.
