Remembrance Day

This poem is written by Spencer Mackenzie, age 11 (with research from a
classmate)

On the battlefields where poppies grow
You can hear dogs barking at the foe.
Dozens of soldiers fighting in the fields
Never knowing when it’s their last meal.

Mother and child waiting at home
For their father who misses them so.
Courageous steeds running through meadows
With the army through highs and lows.

The pigeon flies through the sky
Carrying a message to hide.
Many have fallen from the air
Not enough people know to care.

Dozens of soldiers and animals fought without a shield
and bravely took their last breath on the battlefield.
