The District of Muskoka is looking for someone to fix the Silver Bridge in Bracebridge but residents shouldn’t expect to see the bridge reopened anytime soon.
The District recently announced they are currently seeking a qualified contractor to undertake repairs and restoration of the Silver Bridge. An “Expression of Interest” (EOI) has been issued, inviting submissions from contractors who have the relevant experience.
The selection process is expected to continue through the summer of 2025, with on-site repairs anticipated to start in the fall.
The District has announced that the Silver Bridge will remain closed throughout 2025 while plans for rehabilitation are being developed and executed.
On Monday, January 6, 2025, staff from Bracebridge Operations reported unusual clearance for sidewalk equipment on the bridge. This prompted a detailed inspection by District personnel and a Senior Structural Engineer, which revealed deformation in the bridge’s truss members.
Recent assessments have identified the primary issue as a failure at a connection point on the western truss. It was noted that both gusset plates on this truss were found to be sheared and buckled, leading to structural misalignment.
