From the Rotary Club of Bracebridge:
As we look ahead into a new year, it is our pleasure to share with you the recipient of the William E. Towns, Citizen of the Year Award. This years’ recipient is Heather Hurren.
Heather has lived in Bracebridge for over 37 years and during her time, she has given back to our community in so many ways. If you know Heather, you know that there is no one else that deserves this award more.
Here are just a few examples of what Heather does:
– Drives school bus – showing in so many ways that she cares
– Volunteers for the Agricultural Society, Bracebridge Fall Fair & Horse show for the past 25 years. She has and still holds prominent roles for the Society.
– Worked in the kitchen preparing meals for 2 years for Out In The Cold and currently drives the bus that picks up and returns participants for the event
– Heather has fostered hundreds of kittens and their mothers over the past 5 years so they can be adopted. Yes, sometimes that includes bottle feeding abandoned kittens until they are ready to eat on their own
– She has given her time to help out in schools for hot dog days, safe arrivals and conducting head lice checks
– For 17 years, Heather has volunteered for the Canadian Cancer Society where she has raised over $23,000
Please help us congratulate Heather!
