From Hospice Muskoka:
On September 8th, Hospice Muskoka held its second annual Hike for Hospice at The Muskoka Lakes Farm and Winery, located in Bala and owned and operated by the Johnston family. The Muskoka community helped us surpass our original goal with a net total of $99,646.17 being raised for Andy’s House and Hospice Muskoka.
Hospice Muskoka would like to thank our sponsors and the Muskoka community for their on-going support and generosity. Without you, we would not be able to provide the level of programs and services Hospice Muskoka delivers to people in the south and west Muskoka regions.
The Potts Family Memorial Foundation, constructed a 10 bed hospice on the shore of the Indian River in Port Carling, known as Andy’s House. It is located on West Street in Port Carling and is available to all residents of Muskoka Lakes, Bracebridge, Gravenhurst, Georgian Bay Townships, Wahta First Nation, and Moose Deer Point First Nation, and by extension, their families.
Andy’s House offers specialized palliative care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through a team of professional staff. Andy’s House also has a Registered Social Worker specializing in Grief and Bereavement Counselling.
Andy’s House receives partial funding from the Ontario Ministry of Health but depends greatly on donations to provide comprehensive palliative and end of life care services. The construction of Andy’s House was entirely funded by donors who value hospice care.
Thank you to the community who came out and participated in our second annual Hike for Hospice, and to all who sponsored this event and made it possible. Save the date for next year; at Muskoka Lakes Farm and Winery on September 7, 2025.
