A Muskoka man with a long list of convictions added to his total during a recent court appearance in Bracebridge.
On May 24, Shane Sauder, 36, pled guilty to mischief and breaching court orders.
Court heard that on March 21, 2021, police were contacted by a Gravenhurst resident. The caller said they had asked Sauder to leave their residence, which he did. However, he came back to the residence later in the night while the owner was sleeping and kicked in the door. Sauder was charged was mischief.
Court heard that Sauder is also a registered sex offender and must report to police. However, court heard he had failed to do so and he was also charged with failing to report.
Justice Michael Harpur noted that Sauder now has some four pages of convictions on his criminal record but he agreed with the defence that Sauder had endured an exceptionally difficult upbringing.
The Crown requested 90 days in jail but Justice Harpur said the 29 days served in pre-trial custody would be adequate.
Harpur cautioned that the penalties will increase in severity if Sauder’s poor conduct continued.
“It’s going to take a very strong man to overcome the difficulties that you’ve faced in the past,” said Harpur. “I hope you have that strength in you, sir.”
