It’s cupcake season and there are plenty of critters at the Ontario SPCA Muskoka Animal Centre that could use a helping hand.
This Sunday, Feb. 9 from 1pm to 5pm it’s time to chip in for some deserving animals at the Cupcake Day Fundraiser at the Ontario SPCA Muskoka Animal Centre in Bracebridge.
Here in Muskoka, we have a very special puppy who is working through some extraordinary challenges. He is the poster child for why fundraisers like Cupcake Day are critical to help provide care and shelter to animals in need.
Spanky, now fondly called Shadow, arrived at the Ontario SPCA Muskoka Animal Centre unable to walk properly, or without discomfort. After thorough medical tests, it was discovered that Shadow had Bilateral Luxating Patella, a condition where the kneecaps can pop out of place. In Shadow’s case, his birth defect was so severe that his kneecaps could not be replaced without surgery, making every step for him a painful ordeal.
Shadow’s journey to recovery has been nothing short of extraordinary. This brave pup has already undergone three surgeries, countless veterinary appointments, physiotherapy sessions, and around-the-clock care from the compassionate team at the Ontario SPCA
Muskoka Animal Centre. His medical bills are already over $6,000, with more tests, treatments, and rehabilitation still to come.
Shadow’s story is just one of many that highlight the lifesaving work of the Muskoka Animal Centre. Animals in urgent need of care, shelter, and love come through their doors every day, and that’s why Cupcake Day is such an important event. Anyone who wants to bake a difference can register at cupcakeday.ca and join the Ontario SPCA’s mission to help animals in need by making a donation or hosting a Cupcake Day party. We’re also inviting folks out to our animal centre this Sunday for a bake sale.
