SIFFT Electric expands into Huntsville area

SIFFT Electric has spent the past 41 years building its reputation in south Muskoka and Parry Sound. Now they’ve brought that reputation to Huntsville, backed by a new workforce hired from the north Muskoka area.

Earlier this year SIFFT welcomed six more employees through the merger with Ron Pratt Electric, a well-known provider in the Huntsville area. That is in addition to the five employees SIFFT welcomed after merging with Greenside Electric in Huntsville the previous year. That acquisition expanded the SIFFT business to include the expertise in solar and renewable energy Greenside was already known for.

“It’s very exciting to see the SIFFT family grow in reach and depth,” said Curt Moore, General Manager of SIFFT. “These mergers will not only help us expand our coverage throughout Muskoka and Parry Sound, but our combined knowledge truly positions us as the ideal choice for your solar, electrical, HVAC and home automation needs.”

SIFFT now boasts a complement of 15 employees in Huntsville alone, based in town and all hired from the north Muskoka area.

“We wanted to make sure our employees are based in the community of Huntsville,” says company founder Phil Sifft. “A lot of people in Huntsville have been with Ron Pratt for a long time, and we want them to know that we’ve been operating in Muskoka for a long time as well. They can expect that same quality service from us.”

It’s a far cry from the early days when Phil began doing electrical work after moving to the Muskoka area in 1981. Phil had apprenticed in his hometown of Burlington before meeting a Muskoka girl, Mary-Jane, and moving to the area.

For many years, SIFFT operated out of Phil’s Foot’s Bay home, and it wasn’t until 1995 that they relocated. Now they operate out their home base in one of the most modern and prominent locations in Muskoka Lakes Township at 156 Medora Road in Port Carling.

Along the way they’ve gone from a one-man operation to 65 employees trained in everything from HVAC and audio-visual tech to solar power programming.

Curt signed up as an apprentice in 1998, working his way up to partnership in the company in 2019.

“I grew up in a small town outside of Parry Sound and after high school I was looking to get into the trades. My father was a carpenter and a farmer which gave me some exposure to physical work which I enjoyed doing,” he says. “A family friend had been working with Phil for a couple of years as an electrician and he was able to get me a job at SIFFT as an apprentice/labourer.”

Whether it’s donating funds for the new Muskoka Lumber Community Centre in Bracebridge, or buying jerseys for local minor hockey teams, Curt says it’s always been vital for the SIFFT team to give back to the community that has given them so much.

“It’s our home too and we want to give back where we can and help support all of our local communities,” he says.

Now SIFFT is hoping they can establish the same type of reciprocal relationships at their new home in Huntsville.

“We’ve been working in the Huntsville area for many years but we wanted to build on that by growing a team from the Huntsville area to better serve clients,” says Curt. “We’re excited to be growing in the Huntsville area and working with new clients and contractors.”
