Stolen Mercedes in Gravenhurst leads to conviction

Earlier this week in Bracebridge court, Stephanie White, 31, appeared virtually in a Bracebridge court from custody.

She pled guilty to several charges including possession of stolen property, operating a vehicle while prohibited and failing to attend court.

Court heard that in June of 2019 the Bracebridge OPP were on patrol on James Street in Bracebridge when they spotted a black SUV with no front plates. They found White behind the wheel, but she was banned from driving stemming from a previous impaired driving charge.

On July 18, 2020, the OPP were patrolling a residence they were familiar with in Gravenhurst when they spotted a Mercedes in the driveway. They made inquiries and determined the car had been stolen.

The police then observed White standing near the car with what they believed to be the faub to the stolen vehicle.

They executed a search warrant on the property and inside found a taser, .22 calibre ammunition and a stolen driver’s license.

White was ultimately charged with possession of the stolen driver’s license but not the stolen Mercedes.

Court heard that White then subsequently failed to attend court on multiple occasions.

Court heard that White has a serious fentanyl addiction and a criminal record.

She was ultimately sentenced to 90 days in jail and 12 months probation.
